“Either” và “Neither” là 2 cụm từ có cách sử dụng giống như “so” và “too”, dùng để nói về “cũng”; tuy nhiên “Either” và “Neither” dùng để nói về “cũng” trong DẠNG PHỦ ĐỊNH.

Ví dụ: 

I didn't get enough to eat, and you didn't either. 

I didn't get enough to eat, and neither did you.

Các bạn hãy chú ý 

• Vị trí của từ “Either” và “Neither” trong câu. “Either” đứng ở cuối của câu, sau trợ động từ ở dạng phủ định, còn “Neither” đứng sau từ nối giữa 2 vế câu (thường là “and”), sau đó đến trợ động từ và động từ chính.

• Trong câu sử dụng “Neither” thì trợ động từ đứng sau “Neither” không được dùng ở dạng phủ định (không được dùng “not”), vì bản thân từ “Neither” đã mang nghĩa phủ định.

Khi chúng ta gặp 2 tình huống tương đồng, chúng ta vẫn có thể viết:

William doesn't work there, and John doesn't work there. 

Nhưng trong thực tế, chúng ta nên sử dụng “Neither” hoặc “Either” cho câu trên như sau:

William doesn't work there, and John doesn't either. 
William doesn't work there, and neither does John.

Chúng ta hãy cùng tham khảo một số ví dụ sử dụng “Neither” và “Either” thay thế được cho nhau:

“EITHER...OR”

“Either...or” được sử dụng để đưa ra sự lựa chọn giữa 2 khả năng. Các bạn có thể hiểu đơn giản là “Hoặc cái này... hoặc cái kia”

Ví dụ:

Either Mike or Lisa will be there.
(Hoặc Mike hoặc Lisa sẽ ở đó)

“NEITHER ... NOR”

Cụm “Neither...nor” tương đồng với “Not...either...or”

Ví dụ:

Neither Mike nor Lisa will be there.
(Cả Mike và Lisa đều sẽ không ở đó)

He speaks neither English nor French.
(Anh ta không nói tiếng Anh cũng như tiếng Pháp)

We brought neither coffee nor tea.
(Chúng ta cũng không mang cà phê và cũng không mang trà)

I will neither help you nor go to my room.
(Tôi sẽ không giúp bạn cũng không đi vào phòng tôi)

Ngoài ra, “Neither” cũng được sử dụng giống như “Not...either”

Ví dụ:

A: I don't speak French. (Tôi không nói tiếng Pháp)
B: Neither do I.(Tôi cũng không). Trong thực tế, có thể trả lời “Neither do I” bằng cụm “Me neither”

C: He isn't ready to go.(Anh ta chưa sẵn sàng để đi)
D: Neither are we.(Chúng ta cũng chưa sẵn sàng để đi)

I making paintings with water colours as also oil colours. Paintings made with oil colours take time to make and get ready as the oils are slow in drying up. There is however a certain richness of colour in an oil painting. Water colours are quick to dry. I find the effect of water colours very soothing.

Abstracts are my favourite themes for painting. But there is meaning in the abstracts I make. They are not just a splash of colour. The abstracts I make are meaningful. I love to share the representations of my abstracts with those who ask to know it. When the meanings of abstracts are seen the paintings can be appreciated. Often the meanings of abstracts are not easy to decipher. But the coming together of colour and form in a painting is in itself beautiful.

I also making portraits. I to sit before a person and make their portrait. But this may not be possible always. I sketch portraits in black pen or in pencil. Portraits are interesting to make. I have made portraits of some celebrities and have had the opportunity to go and meet with them and have the portraits autographed by them. On a couple of occasions celebrities have wanted to have the picture with my signature. Such occasions humbled me.

Sometimes I make caricatures too. These are fun to make. They add a dash of humour to the portrait of a person. Subjects of my caricature drawings have never been offended by my work. They have d my work and have praised it.

I find making drawings and paintings very rejuvenating. When I am lonely and bored my canvas and paper, tubes and bottles of colour and brushes give me wonderful company in a beautiful and colourful way.
