You use energy every day. Energy is the ability (21) _______ change. When you ride a bike, you use energy from your body to make the bike move. Your parents use heat energy to change the food (22) _______ raw to cooked.

Not all energy is used as soon as you get it. Sometimes energy is (23) _______ to be used later, stored energy can be chemical energy stored in a battery or in your body. It can also be potential energy. Potential energy is based on (24) _______ position of the object. A soccer player standing ready to kick a ball has potential energy.

Energy of motion is also called kinetic energy. Potential energy converts, or changes into, kinetic energy when the thing or person begins to move. When the soccer player kicks the ball, kinetic energy is at work. Energy often changes forms. When you (25) _______ the light, electricity converts into light. When you eat, chemical energy from your food converts. into thermal and mechanical energy that allows you to move and work.

We use many different energy sources to do work for us. Energy sources are classified into two groups - renewable and nonrenewable. Non-renewable energy sources are those that take millions of years to form and will run out some day. It is energy that comes from fossil fuels such as coal, crude oil, and natural gas. Fossil fuels are mainly made up of carbon and were formed millions of years ago. The chemical reaction which takes place when we burn fossil fuels releases carbon compounds such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide into the air. Carbon dioxide is one of the green house gases which is contributing to global warming and air pollution. On the other hand, renewable energy sources will never run out, are better for the environment and do not cause pollution. Renewable energy is often called green energy because it is a natural energy, always available and does not have to be formed like nonrenewable energy. The green energy is always there. For example, the Sun consistently shines, water is abundant, and the winds blow throughout the year. The five types include solar, energy from the Sun; geothermal, energy from heat within the Earth; hydroelectric, energy from moving water; biomass, energy from dead plants and microorganisms and finally, energy from the wind.

Did you know that energy use is the biggest contributor to fine average Canadian home's carbon footprint? That's why the David Suzuki Foundation and Bullfrog Power are partnering to offer you a quick and easy way to switch your home to clan energy and be part of the solution to climate change. When you choose green energy, Bullfrog's generators put clean, renewable electricity and/or green natural gas (produced from organic waste, not fracking) into the grid or pipeline to match the amount of power or natural gas your home uses. Bullfrog ensures the energy going into our energy systems - on your behalf -is from clean, green sources. Bullfrog’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power from new Canadian renewable energy facilities, with at least 50 per cent directly from your region.

Energy use is the main reason that causes carbon footprint in Canada.

We are looking for cheap, clean, and effective sources of energy. These types of energy won’t cause pollution or waste natural resources. Solar power is one of these energy sources. It will (1) be provided freely by the sun. One percent of the solar energy that reaches the earth will be enough to provide electricity for the whole population of the world. Solar energy will (2) be used by many countries around the world. Solar panels will (3) be placed on the roofs of houses and other buildings and the sun’s energy will be used to heat water. The energy will (4) be stored for a long time. We hope that by using solar energy the problem of the energy shortage will (5) be solved.
