WILL ALL TEACHERS BE ROBOTS IN THE FUTURE? How will technology change
the world of work? Nobody really knows, but we can make predictions. Scientists think
that some jobs will disappear because of new technology. For example, there won’t be
any mechanics because robots will repair our cars. Programmers will lose their jobs too,
because robots will write all the computer software. And scientists don’t think we’ll need
pilots, as robots will fly planes. But what about teachers or doctors? Will robots take
their jobs? Probably not. Robots are very good at technical work, but they aren’t very
good at dealing with people!
1. Robots ___ (repair) our cars.
2. Robots ___ (write) computer programs.
3. Robots ___ (fly) planes.

4. Robots ___ (work) as doctors.
5. Robots ___ (teach) students at school.

Food prices rise as inflation returns to British supermarkets

Shop prices are rising across the UK's supermarkets once again for the first time since 2014, according to fresh industry figures by Kantar Worldpanel. After 28 months of deflation in the market, like-for-like grocery prices have increased by 0.2 percentage points to bring a return to inflation.

The sector has been warning that prices will have to go up to cover higher costs as a result of a weaker pound. The rise of the discounters, Aldi and Lidl, had led the major supermarkets to slash prices in order to hold onto shoppers. However, the return of inflation suggests that the bitter price war might be drawing to an end.

Grocery inflation now stands at 0.2 percent over the 12 weeks to January 1, according to Kantar. Supermarket sales grew by 1.8 percent over the period as shoppers splashed out over Christmas, according to Kantar. Consumers spent around £480m more at the tills last month than they did in December 2015, leading to record sales.

VI, Read the passage and circle the best option A, B, C or D to complete the following questions or
statements:
The Sun today is a yellow dwarf star. It is fueled by thermonuclear reactions near its center that convert
hydrogen to helium. The Sun has existed in its present state for about four billion six hundred million years
and is thousands of times larger than the Earth. By studying other stars, astronomers can predict what the
rest of the Sun’s life will be like. About five billion years from now, the core of the Sun will shrink and
become hotter. The surface temperature will fall. The higher temperature of the center will increase the rate
of thermonuclear reactions. The outer regions of the Sun will expand approximately 35 million miles, about
the distance to Mercury, which is the closest planet to the Sun. The Sun will then be a red giant star.
Temperatures on the Earth will become too high for life to exist. Once the Sun has used up its
thermonuclear energy as a red giant, it will begin to shrink. After it shrinks to the size of the Earth, it will
become a white dwarf star. The Sun may throw off huge amounts of gases in violent eruptions called nova

explosions as it changes from a red giant to a white dwarf. After billions of years as a white dwarf, the Sun
will have used up all its fuel and will have lost its heat. Such a star is called a black dwarf. After the Sun
has become a black dwarf, the Earth will be dark and cold. If any atmosphere remains there, it will have
frozen over the Earth’s surface.
66. It can be inferred from the passage that the Sun ______.
A. is approximately halfway through its life as a yellow dwarf
B. will continue to be a yellow dwarf for another 10 billion years
C. has been in existence for 10 billion years
D. is rapidly changing in size and brightness
67. What will probably be the first stage of change for the Sun to become a red giant?
A. Its surface will become hotter and shrink.
B. It will throw off huge amounts of gases.
C. Its central part will grow smaller and hotter.
D. Its core will cool off and use less fuel.

Dear Annie,

How are you doing? It’s been a while since we have spoken to each other. I have good news to share, I will be moving to London to take a new job that I have been offered. I will reach London on 15th of Jan.

As you know, I have never been to London before, so I was hoping you could help me in finding accommodation. Though my company has arranged a studio apartment for the initial week, I will have to vacate the place after that.

My preference would be to live closer to my workplace, which is in central London, as it would save a lot of travelling time and if I could get something near tube station and the marketplace that would be great. I am mostly looking for a studio apartment. If studios are not available, I would not mind sharing a flat with a man. But the apartment should be spacious with good ventilation. My budget is around 500 pounds per month. Do you think I will get something in that budget?

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Regards,
Chris

Direction: As if you are Annie, read the letter and give a suitable response.
