I am a football fan and I regularly go to the stadium of my home team to watch them play and cheer them along. My football team play in the English Premier League. I have a season ticket for the home games and I sit in the stands with my father and brother.
In the old days, fans used to congregate and stand on the terraces but since the tragedies of Hillsborough, Bradford and Heysel, football stadiums are all-seater.A capacity crowd is expected for the local ‘Derby’ between my team and their local rivals. The rivalry is friendly but fierce and bragging rights are at stake.
I usually arrive to the stadium about an hour before the match. I enter the stadium through a turnstile and there is time to have a cup of hot bovril and a meat pie before taking to my seat about twenty minutes before kick-off.
The atmosphere is electrifying and tense. The away supporters are segregated in one corner of the ground. Both sets of supporters are vociferous in their vocal support of their respective team and joyously sing football anthems which are universally known.
The supporters wear the colours of the strip of the their team. Scarves, hats and banners are aplenty as the two teams come out of the tunnel together and handshakes are the norm with opposing players, the officials and the mascots before the final warm-up.
The time is now three o’clock on a cold, windy Saturday afternoon and it is time for the match to begin. There will be two halves of forty-five minutes of football. There will be a few minutes of added time at the end of each half for injuries or goals scored.
It is bound to be fast and furious, action-packed with drama and tension. There will be near-misses, penalty shouts and undeserved abuse hurled at the referee. The game is being broadcast live on cable television around the world. Highlights will be shown on ‘Match of the Day’ on English BBC later in the evening.
By five o’clock, the result will be known. Either we will go home full of joy or disappointment. There will be goals. There will be a story to tell. The stadium empties quickly and the supporters return to their modes of transport to be home for Saturday evening ‘tea’.
This is the story of a football match through the eyes of someone who lives and breathes football.

To celebrate the HCM Communist Youth Union's Foundation Day, our school Sports Club recently played a friendly match with Nguyen Khuyen School’s Football Team. The match was held on March 24th at 3:00 pm on the Hoa Lu stadium.
It was a nice day. In the first half, our tearn played pretty well. They tried to keep the ball away from the goal and as near to our rival’s as possible. By a combination of passing and dribbling, the oppcnenis gave a shot into our goal. Fortunately, our goalie could catch the ball. All the stands seemed to be exploded with merry and exciting shouts. And all the schoolboys and girls jumped up and down cheering. In the second half, both teams played beautifully and skilfully and tried to score the goal, but no-one succeeded. Finally it was a draw.
When the game was over, all of us were happy to have a fair game. I think all the schools in the area should hold such a friendly game to tie up and promote the friendship and solidarity together.
We usually do not watch TV programs that we not like and since we have lots of channels to pick from, we change the channel as soon as we find that this is not an interesting program. But sometimes we have to watch the program that other people are watching and we do not have control on the channel changing and thus we often watch programs that we do not like at all, one such program was a talk show that I recently watched. This was a talk show on our national TV channel (…say the name of a TV channel…) and apart from the host, there were two political figures who came from 2 opposite parties. Since this is a famous TV channel, I am sure a good number of people watched it. I watched it at a friend’s house when I was sitting in their drawing room and my friend’s uncle was watching and controlling the TV channels.
I do not watch TV that often nowadays but when I was a student, I used to watch televisions a lot. There are lots of programs that really liked and watched regularly. In those days I watch mostly news and some selective TV programs.THE TV program that made a strong impression on me was a documentary that I watched on Discovery Channel.
The TV program was called “The sacrifice of genius” and it was a serial that had around 10 episodes. IWATCHED all of those episodes and enjoyed a lot. This was mainly a documentary serial which emphasised the sacrifice the famous and genius scientists like Marie Curie, Thomas Edison and 8 other scientists.
I watched the TV program in my third year of my graduation program. In our local time, the program was broadcasted at 9.00 pm every Thursday. The program showed the life and work of the famous scientists and the sacrifices they made for humans and to make the world a better place. These stories were presented in a fascinating way and were very professionally made. The spectators would have the impression that they were actually watching the real scientists and their works.
I have learned so many things about those scientists and learned the sacrifices they made. Those sacrifices were unbelievable and after watching this program, I could not stop thinking about those famous scientists and their supreme sacrifices. This program has helped me to think from a different perspective that sacrificing for others can be moreIMPORTANT than personal achievements like wealth, fame and self-awareness. I later searched for more details of those scientists and other famous persons as well and learned many things. I was actually inspired by this program and started learning closely about the people who made the world a place where we no longer need to live in the dark and do not have to fight the wild animals to earn our foods.
