A Mission to Mars

Have you ever had a dream of traveling to another planet in our solar system? If you have, there is an actual programme that is happening right now, and it hopes to send people to Mars in 2023. Known as the Mars One Mission, it will send a crew of four people on a one -way mission to colonize Mars. Those chosen people will have to be ready to say good-bye to the earth forever, as there will not be a return trip. For the people chosen, they will have to learn to do many different things. First of all, they will be living the rest of their lives with just a handful of other people, so they all must have personalities that allow them to get along. Second, the living quarters that they will have won’t be very spacious, so they will have to deal with that condition as well. If they feel homesick, they will only be able to communicate with people back on the earth via e-mail, video and audio sent back and forth. However, there won’t be any real-time communication. Even at the speed of light, communication between the earth and Mars takes about 20 minutes. Whether the Mars One Mission will actually happen is the big question that a lot of people are asking. There is an enormous skepticism in the science community, and Wired magazine gave the mission a miserable score of two out of ten on its probability scale. Read the passage below carefully and choose the best option A,B,C or D

The start of every New Year is when we make plan to change our life for the better over the fothcoming twelve months. Psychiatry professor Jayashri Kulkami says “ January 1st is a “ magical” date and a vow made on this day is more powerful than one made on June 1st, for example.” So, we make a list of things to quit, start or change. Unfortunately, most of these promises are, more often than not, broken by January 31st. They are usually the identical resolutions that were not fulfilled from the previous year, and the years prior to that.

Researchers show 45 percent of us make a new year resolution. The most common vows include losing weight, volunteering to help others, quiting smoking, saving money, and getting fit. Others include eating healthier food, drinking less alcohol, and going on overseas trips. However, researches also show that most of us are not so goood at sticking to these. A study from the University of Scranton reveals that 71 percent stick to our annual promises for the first two weeks; six months later, less than 50 percent are still on track to keep their resolutions. Most people who give up on their resolutions do so because of a lack of willpower and the use of the “ escape clause” that they will “ try again next year”

again and again to a number of medical colleges, asking if she could be enrolled but each time the answer was NO.

Then one day, to her surprise, she got a letter from the dean of a college in Geneva, which said YES.

At first Geneva College, like the other colleges, was not willing to enroll Elizabeth. But later the important people of that college learned that Elizabeth's application had the support of a famous doctor, and they were afraid to offend that man.

So the dean decided to play a trick by turning the matter over to the student's general meeting of the college, thinking that the students would be the last to agree to take Elizabeth.

When the boy students met, most students took no interest in the matter. Of the rest, some considered the young American's idea interesting and some thought by having Elizabeth they would be proud of their college training the world's first woman doctor. Very soon the students all agreed to accept Elizabeth.

The dean of Geneva College was of course very sorry to learn this, but seeing that he could do nothing to keep Elizabeth out, he gave in.
