To you - me of the future!
We have so many passions, dreams and aspirations that I can only hope you haven't given up. Luckily, we have a great support system from family and friends that push us to be the best we can be and won't let us settle for anything other than purpose. ours.
However, they cannot do it alone. We must keep our eyes on the goal but also enjoy the journey that is life; we have to stay motivated and strong with what we have in our heart. I've made a list of things that I want to achieve by the time I'm 23, and I want you to do them daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. Yes, we've had a life plan since the age of 13, but I've learned one thing since: life doesn't go as planned.
Instead of seeing this as a document and goal-focused list, it should serve as a guide to the kind of person we're going to be. I can't wait to see what we'll learn together.
In ten years, you will be 23 years old: You will grow old, but also gain a lot of wisdom.
You will follow your deepest passion and feel fulfilled.
You will pursue justice and give a voice to those who may not have.
You will be grateful to all the people who have stayed in your life because they truly love you.
You will be great but you have flaws and you need to accept that.
You will have the humility to accept whatever life throws at you.
Chances are you won't stick to your life plan, but whatever you choose will be what you desire.
You won't be afraid to take risks that help you grow as a person. You will value memories more than material things.
You will accept who you are every day.
You will experience strong and difficult emotions, but you will be stronger if you rely on those around you.
You will rise above everything around you.
What you won't at the age of 23:
You will not be defeated by difficult days.
You will not let your dreams die because they are what makes you unique.
You won't let other people tell you how you live your life.
You will not compromise your ethics and values to fit anyone else's.
You won't be afraid of new challenges and let your comfort dictate your decisions.
You won't lose focus on what you've always dreamed of because it's "too hard". Remember, if it is worth it, it won't be easy.
You won't let people humble themselves because of race, gender, or even age. With you there, you are qualified to be there, don't let other people's insecurities become your own.
You won't allow yourself to be a failure because you don't want to live a mediocre life.
Life has not been a smooth ride for us but with God by our side we have managed to stand our ground. The Covid-19 pandemic is nailing everything we both love and hate about the way the world system works, and we're on the cusp of entering a new normal. The expectation alone is enough to make anyone nervous.
But I believe in us because we have a God whose faithfulness remains steadfast even when we waver. Thank God that all He required was faith the size of a mustard seed to be able to move mountains. We've come a long way, shedding our insecurities, trimming our personalities, and honing our skills. There is still a long way to go so I promise to do my best so that in 10 years when you are me, you will be a much better person than I am now.
I wish I could glimpse what your life is like but I hope that it will be a beautiful, peaceful and glorious life. As I clung to Jesus, I hope you hold on even tighter. I love you and I hope that you will make all my efforts worth it and that whenever you look back, you will be proud of me.
Hi! Have a nice day
Love,
You of the past
